Holika Holika Gudetama Jelly Dough Blusher Review (in CR01 Grapefruit)
I saw some of my favourite Youtuber's talking about the Holika Holika Gudetama collection, and this blush really caught my eye. Aside from the adorable packaging, the shade CR01 Grapefruit looked like it would suit me really well. So I have been wanting this for months but it was always sold out and I finally got it. It seems that Holika Holika has upgraded the product? I'm not sure if it's just the packaging that they changed or the formula as well.
Packaging:
Like the Pokemon blush I just reviewed, the main reason I purchased this was because of the packaging! According to my research, Gudetama is a cartoon character in Japan who is an extremely lazy and unmotivated cracked egg. The packaging of this blush is a lot smaller and thinner compared to the Pokemon one, so it's much easier to store. It does have some weight to it so it feels quite sturdy.
Between the blush and puff, there is a clear plastic layer where you can rest the puff on. Even on the divider, there's a cute little image.
Formula:
When I first opened this blush, it looked like a powder but when I went to swatch it, I was surprised at the moist, bouncy texture! The texture really reminds me of the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes. It has a cream to powder finish so when you touch it, it feels like a cream blush but it dries down to a velvety, powder finish. It leaves indents when you touch it, as you can see below. So I can see this getting really messy.
Colour:
From swatches I have seen online, the shade CR01 Grapefruit looked like a gorgeous warm peachy-pink shade. It looks like that in the pan as well, but when I swatched it on myself it came out to be a pale pink shade. As it looks in the swatch, on my face it looked just as pale and pastel. This type of shade doesn't suit my skin-tone at all, it's too pastel for my liking (for reference I'm a NC30 in MAC right now). Objectively speaking, it's not extremely pale to the point that I can't wear it, however I probably wouldn't reach for this since I prefer bronzey or peachy colours.
Conclusion:
Overall, it's not a bad product but I'm just very disappointed about the colour, I expected it to be a deeper, warmer shade. In my opinion this would probably only suit people with a pale skin tone. It's only $12 though so it's not a regrettable purchase. Would I recommend this? Not so much, the packaging is cute but the quality of this product isn't that great.
